Raise your hand if you're a LOSER!
Oh look, that would be me!
I tampered with a traditional dessert
And destroyed it's respectability. I have a long list of failures
Take a look if you need a laugh!
And that doesn't include before this blog
Why that's not even half!?
The good thing about being a loser
Is you can only go up from here...
And while you may not eat that dessert tonight.
At least I can still grab a cold beer!
:-)

Yes, that's right! I tried to make a healthier, lighter version of oatmeal raisin cookies and they just didn't turn out very well. They weren't horrible. I still ate a handful of them. So did my husband. I even brought a few to work. No one said anything after they took one. Perhaps they threw it away immediately. Normally I get some kind of response when I bring in baked goods. With this, nothing!!! That's when I knew I deserved this loser award.
Oh well! It's bound to happen from time to time. I'm sure even Martha Stewart burns her cookies at least once a year. I bet Julia Child didn't have her cake rise the way it should have on multiple occasions. We just didn't hear about those failures but I know they exist.
We all make mistakes. I learn and laugh at myself. That's the title of this blog and my motto. Learn, laugh and keep on cooking! So enjoy a laugh at my expense today.
My poor sad cookies.... they never even spread out or flattened from the "scoop" position that I put them in! What a sad, sad sight!
My Failed Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
(Servings: Makes a lot of crap that no one will eat!)
1 and 1/4 cup of flour (white wheat)
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda4 Tbsp. butter (I used light Smart Balance)
1/4 cup applesauce
1/2 cup sugar (I used Stevia in the raw)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 and 1/2 cup of rolled oats
1 and 1/4 cup of raisins
1 tsp cinnamon
1 pinch of gr. cloves
Put all the crap together. Bake at 350 degrees. Makes about 3 dozen piles of poop that your dog may eat, but only if he's hungry!
Oh well, today's failure will only make me try harder to find that perfect recipe! If you have a lighter version of this cookie that won't add two inches to my waistline and doesn't taste like bird crap on concrete, then please share the recipe here! Let me redeem myself. Thanks!
Hmmm....obviously I'm no do it yourself expert, but maybe a little more butter, less raisins and oats? Maybe another egg? I know butter is what makes them spread. Better luck next time :)
ReplyDeleteWell I was kind of following another healthy recipe but yes, I think you're right -- too much dry and not enough wet. It definitely needed more butter or perhaps some Greek yogurt. Oh well, I've come to learn that my desserts are my most-troublesome recipes to "healthify". At least I can laugh and move on! :-P

I agree with Jess, more butter. And the real kind of butter. Yeah, I know that doesn't make them healthier, but cookies can be healthy if eaten in moderation. Of course, I have a hard time myself eating cookies in moderation!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you post your "fails" - hilarious! I have several - never thought to post it - great pic, too!
